First Post - Demo

This is just a test post as I ready this blog for use in the not too distant future. The photo that accompanies it, however, does have some personal historical significance. It was set up and taken during my senior year in high school (Hollywood High School) for my "company" (film project group), Broken Watch Films (Broken Watch Films,) East by the time the film, our capstone project, was shown in class - Motion Picture Workshop with Mr. Gas.

You've got to admit that it is a nicely broken watch, and I did it myself (it was a cheapy from Thrifty Drug Store and Santa Monica and Western). :)

The Long Little Day Trip to Real de Asientos, Aguascalientes

So I was into my third month in Guanajuato back in very early July, and I had hoped to have already made a number of weekend or one-day trips to other locations around that latitudinal belt of the country, but that had not been happening, as, unfortunately, the rainy season arrived, and it seemed to be a rainy season that lived up to its name, including much flooding in areas I had hoped to visit or at least cross en route to others. As it turned out, I had only managed a trip to Zacatecas before all the rain began, and I was getting a bit tired of being cooped up on those weekend days I had originally envisioned as days of exploration. And so once a break in the weather came, I had to jump on the opportunity to go head out, especially since my time in Guanajuato was very shortly coming to an end as I was just a week away from moving down to Mexico City and then Oaxaca. Real de Asientos is not a particularly famous tourist destination in Mexico; in fact, it is not really famous at...

Oaxaca - Day of the Move to the San Felipe del Agua Area

Well, the day finally arrived, and the move is done, and my legs, thighs to be exact, are sorer than on any of the hikes or walks I've taken in recent times. In fact, those hikes were not sore-leg inducing events, but today's move with so many climbs up and down the stairs to get things out and ditto at new place bringing stuff in....well, there you have it. I am no longer in the Centro, the center touristic part of the city (even if I was in the outer stretches of it), and I am now within walking distance of the mountains. It feels good to have a more permanent spot to stay in. The Calle Colon apartment was always temporary and only until mid October, so that fact was always in the back of my mind, and weighing it down a bit in the process. But now I have a place and can relax. Now, mind you, I am not planning to stay here in this apartment or town forever. That was not part of the plan, unless I ended up feeling that Oaxaca was the be all and end all of places to live, whi...

Back to School!

WARNING: Well, OK, so maybe “warning” is a bit strong a term, but at any rate what I want to tell you is that this post is not necessarily written for anyone else but me - something for me to look back on in the future so that I can remember this point in time and what I was doing and where I had been, educationally, speaking before. There are no photos and nothing especially captivating. Still, I do try to keep it all clear to anyone who does choose to read it - no mysteries or “who’s that” here, and I am writing it as if to a second person - you, whoever you might happen to be. If there was only one thing drilled into my head in my university junior year writing class it was the phrase: reader-based prose. That all said, here goes. . . I had only been here in Guanajuato a couple of days, but I figured I had better start getting back into the swing of things so as not to waste time and, probably more importantly, to get into a routine around which to shape my days. I thus d...
